But when freedom came, these ancient forces that had never died, flourished vigorously, not only in communities of African origin, but everywhere in the world.
Olokun is the Orisha of the ocean, representing the sea in its most terrifying state. He owns the depths of the sea. He's androgynous, same man as woman. It is related to the deep secrets of life and death. It provides health, prosperity and material evolution. The depths of the sea is where he/she dwells and to him/her belong the riches of the sea. It is sometimes depicted as half man, half fish, although this is indefinite.
He is a powerful, terrible and extremely mysterious deity who lives chained in the depths of the sea, where in a cave has its palace surrounded by precious stones and ivory walls.
Obbatalá chained him to the bottom of the ocean, when he tried to kill humanity with the flood.
He is always depicted with a mask.
